In the Mundane

You never knew them, you never knew them. Turn it on.

Seasons follow seasons, you find them on a whim. Isn't this new invention great? You thought you'd known them, but you never knew them. It does the impossible. In their words you find the things that you were too afraid to say. It shows the invisible. And the words you never heard move your perspective--deep tremors moving what we thought were solid, immovable foundations of bedrock--and you see paths that come close but narrowly miss.

What you never knew and never expected--makes it beautiful.

And I Never Knew

It's been about forever and a half since any new words have found their way to this site, and here I am to remedy that problem.

Writing in a blog is an ultimately rewarding experience. It's a great feeling to be able to look back at the thoughts you had at a particular time. Just a few hours ago I was talking to Harrison, who's just come home from CTY; he was explaining his feelings to me and in them I recognized my own. I reached back in the archives and pulled out this snapshot of my mind.

Not only was I happy to rediscover my own clear thoughts, but also impressed the coherence and flow of my writing--two days short of being two years old.

Less rewarding, however, are the posts that lack any kind of significant substance--and in this blog they are plenty--though they provide a sort of context. Maybe I'm just trying to justify subpar work.

Case in point: The post below. I found that advertisement amusing, so I linked to it on my blog, accompanied by a sentence (and a parenthetical remark). It's hardly worth the space it takes; it provides no conclusions or new ideas and should probably be relegated to the realm of profile linking. But! This Subaru provides context. At the time of the posting, I was myself driving a Subaru (Not an STI, but a 1993 1.8L 110hp AWD Impreza L Sport Wagon w/5MT). The post doesn't reveal any connections with my life to an objective viewer. But when I look at this now it reminds me of the Subaru that I cleaned up and drove hard and killed on a curb.

Then I suppose the post appeals to me more than most people--and I am likely writing this blog more for myself than for anyone else.

In the end, though, I still believe that the proper personal blog should show not just actions, or links, or shallow remarks, but personal ideas and emotions. These are what varies most among people. These are what matters most.

Oh snap, a direct attack.

(Too bad I don't have one of those.)

My Camera's Become Nearsighted

I'm really kind of upset about this. On the upside, the camera's suddenly (inexplicably) become really quite good at macro photography. It's now a fixed-focus macro photography camera.

I got the camera in December of 2002, and it lasted for 3 and a half years (all of high school!) before it finally quit. Ah well.

Coherence Optional

I just caught another bat.
Running Total: Alfred 2, Bats 0

I was hoping they'd go away because it's warmer out. I guess I was wrong.

Oh and Prom was last Friday. Had a pretty good time. Won an alarm clock/radio in the raffle at the afterprom. After afterprom I lost my glasses again, which is always great fun, and they found them the next day at the deep end of the pool. I swear I put them on the table. I was one of the few who stayed up the whole time watching the movie, but then again I really didn't have a choice with my contacts on (not that that stopped Adam).

Got home at 6:30AM. Nothing much else to talk about. Went to sleep and got up at 1, felt pretty awake, picked up my glasses, had lunch, looked at the few prom pics I have, went to return my tux, started to feel really tired, went to staples, went to Office Depot and saw Richard and by this time I was half asleep. Went home and had dinner. Really tired. Got ready for bed but decided to try doing some work. Started waking up again. Didn't really do any work but managed to be on the computer for a few hours (ugh). Went to bed at 1.

Stupid chem labs. I'm not getting much sleep tonight.

I need to find a job.

Gah

I'm on a laptop at school. It's so freaking annoying that they lock these screens to 800x600 when the native resolution is like 1400xa lot.

Just really freaking annoying.

Up-Date

WHOA A POST EVERYONE MUST CELEBRATE

My dad rented a Dodge Charger yesterday and let me take it around the block. I was cruising around pretty slowly and I swear people were stopping and staring, because the car is absolutely frightening. It's the most imposing and overall angry-looking car I've ever seen, and it's huge besides. He got the "low-end" SE version, with a 3.5L V6 (250hp, 250 lb-ft torque), and since it's one of the new, retro wave of Dodge muscle cars, it's RWD. I couldn't work the AutoStick thing to do a burnout (heh) but more importantly the AutoStick felt slow, sloppy, and vague. I'll take a real stick shift over it any day, thank you.

The weather these few days has been really strange. Just today, it's switched from sunny to cloudy and back to sunny at least two or three times already. It's jarring--my room keeps transitioning from bright to dark and it's screwing up my sense of time.

After APs ended I lost all motivation to do any work whatsoever, but I'm getting back into the flow a little, which is good, because I have five or so projects due in the next two weeks. And then prom and then no school and then graduation and then summer!

P.S. I wanna MacBook (not of the Pro variety)

Aftermath

[Editor's Note: This was written back in March but never posted. . .until now!]

Well, it was one hell of a ride.

I got 6 acceptances, all in order from the bottom, and then 4 rejections.

I guess I did a pretty damn good job of predicting the reach/match schools.
